Rainbow trout is the most frequently stocked species in Manitoba, so much so that people are often surprised it is not native to the province.

The brook trout is a fly- fishing favourite in Manitoba. In smaller streams and ponds it may be one of only a few game fish but it is guaranteed to be a good catch.
Channel Catfish
As the throngs of people on the shores of the Red River know, Manitoba’s channel catfish are easily caught from shore with the most basic tackle.
Lake Trout
A perfect summer morning – clear skies, calm water and time period between sunrise and mid-morning is the best time to snag a lake trout in one of Manitoba’s thousands of lakes.
Goldeye
This relatively small freshwater foraging fish is a popular one in Manitoba, both as a delicacy when smoked and as the namesake for Manitoba’s only professional baseball team, the Winnipeg Goldeyes.
Arctic Grayling
The Arctic Grayling is a popular catch for fisherman in Manitoba’s North. It is easily recognized by its striking appearance, beautiful colour and known for its flavourful flesh.
Arctic Char
Native in northern Manitoba, the Arctic Char has historically been an important food source for the peoples of northern Manitoba and the Hudson Bay coast. It’s no wonder; this fish is incredibly tasty with firm red flesh and a high fat content it’s a northern fisherman’s favourite.
Smallmouth Bass
The smallmouth bass is abundant in Manitoba. This species, known for its topwater fight, always gives anglers a rewarding battle.
